BOOK REVIEW
LAW OF
SEXUAL INTERCOURSE IN NIGERIA
This is a
very interesting book. I most definitely would recommend that everyone who
wants to learn and know more about, not just what not to do but what to do when
faced with a civil or criminal issue on sexual malfeasance. Sexual offences are
unarguably a topic that affects a good number of persons. The writer must be
given kudos to, for venturing into such a sensitive area of law.A well written
book, with an impressive style of writing, supported by 76 authorities and 16
statutes.
The author
makes a strong case for the male gender where he argued that "the conventional
stance of our courts on the person capable of raping and being raped may not
actually represent the true position of the law", in the same vein he succeeded
in clearing several controversial issues related to rape against wives, of
which we can say that he also made a strong case for the female gender as well.
Chapter three appears to be the crescendo of the book, the climax it would be in a work of literature, with stunning descriptions of sexual acts including the issue of "stealthing" which not many have thought of. However, in chapter five, perhaps in a fiery moment of boldness, the author attempts to proffer a solution to the problems of sexual cravings between marriage partners. In conclusion the author succeeded in shedding light on the laws affecting sexual intercourse, especially the recently enacted law, titled sexual harassment in tertiary educational institutions (prohibition) act.
